Prof. Muna Mojahed Barakat

Biography

Muna Barakat is a Professor of Physiology and Therapeutic Immunology in the School of Pharmacy at Applied Science Private University (ASU) in Amman, Jordan, where she has served as Dean of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies since March 2025, having previously served as Assistant Dean (2022?2025). She is the Editor-in-Chief of the Jordan Journal of Applied Science - Natural Science Series and an editor for several international journals, including the Middle Eastern Cancer and Oncology Journal.
In 2026, Prof. Barakat was listed among the World?s Top 2% Scientists in the Stanford University?Elsevier ranking (single-year impact for 2025) in the field of Pharmacology and Pharmacy. She has also received several Distinguished Researcher Awards at ASU, including for the highest M-index at the university level.
Prof. Barakat earned her bachelor?s degree in pharmacy from the University of Jordan in 2007, followed by a master?s degree in clinical pharmacy from the same institution in 2009. She then began her academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics at the University of Jordan, while also serving as a clinical preceptor in the cardiology and critical care units at the University of Jordan Hospital. In 2018, she completed her PhD in Pharmacy, specializing in Physiology and Therapeutic Immunology, at Queen?s University Belfast, UK. She joined ASU as an Assistant Professor in 2018, led the Pharmacy Practice group from 2021, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022, and attained the rank of full Professor in 2026. She has served on the advisory boards of the international IVPN-NETWORK since 2020 and CROSSTALK LAB since 2024.
Prof. Barakat has authored more than 150 publications, including peer-reviewed articles in high-ranking journals and book chapters, focusing on pharmacy practice, public health, and therapeutic immunology. She has secured competitive research funding, including an FIP Foundation?BPS Research Grant and an international ASU?UKM joint grant, and has supervised and examined numerous postgraduate theses in Jordan and abroad.

Education

Prof. Barakat earned her bachelor?s degree in pharmacy from the University of Jordan in 2007, followed by a master?s degree in clinical pharmacy from the same institution in 2009. She then began her academic career as a lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Biopharmaceutics at the University of Jordan, while also serving as a clinical preceptor in the cardiology and critical care units at the University of Jordan Hospital. In 2018, she completed her PhD in Pharmacy, specializing in Physiology and Therapeutic Immunology, at Queen?s University Belfast, UK. She joined ASU as an Assistant Professor in 2018, led the Pharmacy Practice group from 2021, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022.
